Did you know the Las Vegas Strip is 4.2 miles? That’s a lot of walking, but it’s a good-for-you type. The Strip is best known for the excitement of the hotels, casinos, restaurants, people-watching, and more. Tourists flock to experience all that, but you can also have a healthy time in Las Vegas. Let’s find out more about Vegas’s health and wellness vibe.
Wellness is a priority even when you’re on vacation. Remember the eight dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, environmental, occupational, and financial. You can touch on most, if not all, of the dimensions while visiting Las Vegas. It is all based on your priorities and planning.
Healthy Eating
Las Vegas is a culinary hotspot, but you can still eat healthily. Some say you should skip the buffets; however, the buffets offer healthy options, too. It’s all about your willpower to say no to unhealthy food choices. Whether you are a carnivore, pescatarian, vegetarian, or vegan, you will not go hungry in Las Vegas.
If buffets are your thing, there are many to choose from along the Las Vegas Strip. The Visit Las Vegas website lists some of the best buffets to try during your visit. The list includes The Wicked Spoon, located in the Cosmopolitan. I have been there but chose more than just healthy food items. I’m just being honest. The Bacchanal Buffet in Caesar’s Palace is well known, and the food is delicious; however, you can make healthy choices when eating there. The A.Y.C.E. Buffet in the Palms Hotel and Casino has fresh seafood and made-to-order pasta.
If you are a vegan, Las Vegas has restaurants that will fit your bill. Truth and Tonic Wellness Cafe is located in the Canyon Ranch Spa inside the Venetian. Also, check out Gordon Ramsey’s Hell Kitchen for its vegetarian and vegan menu. The restaurant’s location is on the Strip side and in front of Caesars Palace. By the way, the Wynn and Encore resorts offer vegetarian and vegan menu items in their restaurants. Lastly, if you want more options, check out the Thrillist article, Best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants in Las Vegas.
Outdoor Activities
If you like outdoor activities, Las Vegas has some fun and healthy things to do. Did you know Red Rock Canyon is only 17 miles from Las Vegas? It is a great place to unwind and hike. You can drive or bike the 13-mile scenic drive. If you like to hike, the Calico Hills Trail is one of 26 trails in Red Rock Canyon. The trail is rated easy to moderate and can take one to three hours to complete. Check out the Ice Box Canyon Trail for those needing a more strenuous hike.
A couple of other things you can do at Red Rock Canyon is rock climb. More information about rock climbing is available on the Bureau of Land Management’s website. Or you can see petroglyphs or ancient rock art. Visit the visitor center for historical information about the 800-year-old art and the Paiute Culture. Other outdoor activities include ziplining at Bootleg Canyon. Viator offers a variety of half-day tours to kayak or to visit the Grand Canyon.
Fitness Activities
Staying fit in Las Vegas is relatively easy. First, one of the best exercises is walking. While the Strip can be very crowded during the day, it is perfect for a long walk. It is 4.2 miles and runs from Mandalay Bay Hotel to the Stratosphere Hotel. That’s a lot of steps on your Fitbit or Apple Watch. You can also work out at your hotel’s fitness center. Many hotels have outdoor pools, so you can take a morning swim if the weather permits. Playing tennis is an option, too. Horseshoe Casino and Hotel have tennis courts and lessons. It’s one more way to have a healthy time in Las Vegas.
Emotional and Physical Wellness
For your emotional and physical wellness, you can stay in a “Stay Well Room.” You may wonder what it is and how it differs from a regular room. Stay Well rooms are offered by hotels under the M.G.M. Resorts umbrella in Las Vegas and provide wellness amenities that your typical hotel room wouldn’t. Stay Well Rooms may have air purification, Vitamin C shower infusion, enhanced cleaning, and aromatherapy. Rooms have a system that reduces water contaminants such as chlorine, pesticides, etc. Mattresses aim to provide additional posture support and minimize pressure points for more restful sleep.
The M.G.M. properties offer Stay Well Rooms. They are the Bellagio, Aria, Vdara, Mandalay Bay, M.G.M. Grand, Mirage, Delano, Park M.G.M., Excalibur, Luxor, and New York-New York Hotel. You can participate in an indoor hike at the Aria or do an urban hike guided tour. Many hotels have on-site spa services if you want to chill at the spa. For a zen experience, get a day pass to the Qua Bath and Spa at Caesars Palace. This spa has roman baths, an arctic ice room, laconium relief, massage therapy, facials, and nail services. You can get lost in the peace and calm for a day. Lastly, many hotels offer yoga lessons on-site. Check with your hotel for specific details.
Intellectual Wellness
Do you want intellectual stimulation? Check out the Mob Museum. Here you can learn more about the notorious world of organized crime. What do you think about going to the Selfie Museum? The Neon Museum is an exciting place to see the beautiful neon signs of hotels, restaurants, and gambling halls. Shelby American is dedicated to the American car and creator, Carroll Shelby. Stop by for a history lesson to view some beautiful, shiny cars. One more museum to visit is the Pinball Hall of Fame. It’s a quirky spot with the most extensive collection of pinball machines.
It’s pretty easy to have a healthy time in Las Vegas and still have fun. This post includes a few of many possible activities. Of course, during your vacation, you want to enjoy yourself fully. Most people want to get away to take a break from stressful jobs and life responsibilities. You can throw away your cares for a few days in Las Vegas. I love this Casey. I do a lot of walking when I’m in Vegas.
Never have time for the Spas though ;).
I’ve walked from the Rio to Excalibur a few times ;).
During my next visit, I will try hiking at Red Rock Canyon.
